Mahogany Four Poster BedsThe four poster bed originated in England. The four poster bed gets its name from the four corner post that rise high above the bed. In the days of old castles the four poster bed had a tester. A tester is basically four rods that connect the four posts at the top of the bed. They are kind of like curtain rods. The tester held curtains that surrounded the bed. The purpose of the curtains was to keep moisture and drafts out as well as provide privacy. Today we have heat and homes that are well insulated and therefore the curtain isn’t as prevalent. The modern four poster bed doesn’t have the tester and curtains but may have a canopy.
